41/2 stars. A tad slow in places, but an otherwise riveting read. I love the idea of telling a house’s history from present day backwards. There’s a section in the middle that -even though I knew was coming - had me gasping in shock. Such wonderful writing.

My only disappointment was in the resolution of one character’s storyline, but that’s a personal thing.
