I’m enjoying the numbers-being-special continuing.

The professor pulling the narrator to the table by the apron strings, and his scolding her on her mother’s choice of what to do with her kid seem to be patriarchal in their subconscious justification. Why did Yoko Ogawa include this trait in him?

Who made the more ethic decision under a socialist lens: the professor’s elder brother who owned and expanded a textiles factory or his wife (the professor’s sister-in-law) who became a landlord? This is the question that occurred to me when this character history was introduced.
