This is different from what I expected it to be, and I'm unsure if I like it. I thought it would be a cohesive story with different POVs, but it's more like a collection of standalone stories and "found media" like research or news set in the same universe.

I might still end up liking it, I'm def gonna give it a fair chance, but I am kinda bummed out that it isn't one big narrative with set characters to follow.

"Don't go tonight, (...) It's dangerous out there,” he whispered, like it held more meaning than the culmination of four words ever could.

—I'm scared! It's giving Iroh telling that one kind guard to stay home during the day of the black sun, but not in a sweet way.... This man is def part of those misogynistic extremist groups. Something bad is about to happen, and he knows about it.

"Are men inferior? Is the way forward without men? (...) This was the conversation that would rule your life.

Elizabeth reached back and grabbed your hand. She smiled at you, comforting. You smiled back, but didn't have the heart to tell her that you weren't sure you agreed with what she said."

—I like the discourse on radicalisation, polarisation, (justified) anger, reactivity, and the danger of generalisation.

"Parthenogenesis has made you obsolete. You are an inferior version of us, a chromosomal disappointment. You are the vestigial tail of the human race (...) You ask if I will stand here and debate the morality of my own existence? I will not, and you should be ashamed for asking. Instead, you should reflect on the morality of yours."

"As the male population declined, the gender binary frayed. Gender fluidity was widely accepted, with census data showing increasing rates of identification as nonbinary or transgender from 2040 (the year it was first tracked) onward."

VERY interested in this specific aspect. I hope we'll get more of it, hopefully in a narrative sense and not only in these article/research/evidence segments.

Marcelle Oh, bummer :/ I recently went through the same and ended up dnf-ing (it was promoted as a romance, but it wasn't because there's no HEA), hope you have a better experience!

There has been one repeated character POV so far, so it might include more of them. I'm still holding out hope!

Which book did you DNF?

And thank you, I hope so as well 💚

Teru Ooh, I'm keeping my fingers crossed it still ends up winning you over! But I get the whiplash, when your expectations are wildly off 🥺

I'm warming up to it! I think I was just mostly thrown because I was done with anthologies for the moment, and this feels like something adjacent. But the themes are right up my alley, so who knows 👏

I DNF-ed The Good Parts, by Evann Normandin, it's well written, but not for me
