Oh dear...he goes full climate change alarmist at the end- and abruptly, with almost zero transition...as if the publisher required him to do it in order to approve the book deal.

...and a divorce, because you're not spending enough time at home (and raising/disciplining/mentoring the kids). Such an unfortunate reality in this line of work.

The Apollo 13 incident was really swiftly addressed; the "aftermath" of world touring, banquets, and follow-on training for the subsequent mission(s) are all really interesting inclusions.

One test crew member who had an eye damaged and surgically removed after a test accident told Haise: "I'm keeping my eye on you."

The coping ability of these men in dealing with major personal setbacks is unusually formidable.

This man had so many in-flight opportunities to panic, but he rose to the challenge every single time. The story of the plane that self-immolated on the ground was both funny *and* pucker-inspiring.

All of these descriptions of flying training, certifications, and technical stick-and-rudder details are delicious food for my dormant aviator soul. I miss flying. A lot.

The "early years" of enduring life through the Great Depression, and initial flying training, were absolutely interesting (and relatable).

I am stunned, however, that back then you could just tell an official "I am a Marine Corps cadet," when you are actually Navy, so that you can fly the (fighter) plane you wanted.

Had to hear another Apollo 13 account, and am already enjoying it.
