The writing is very beautiful in a Willa Cather kind of way. He easily presents a sensual depiction of the world around him. He is sensitive like a more muted Mishima (which he humorously names), and is direct like Hemingway. Easy to say, I'm digging it so far. Though I do wonder how much of this is due to a stellar translation (I'm thinking quite a bit of it.)
