It feels like a straight forward depiction of battle. The characters are centered around the meaning of honor, solidarity, and courage. However, it also reflects on the major human flaws. Many of the characters throw slander before dying in battle. Others hold grudges or refuse to change, even if it means a better outcome. I do not enjoy the repetition of phrases used by Homer, but this might be an artifact of trans.

The back and forward is continuing. There is progress in the overall battle, however, it is small and gradual. Homer’s style is repetitive. Maybe that is why the war seems to drag on. Either intentionally to make the war feel exhausting much like the Greeks felt or a byproduct of translation.
