Done. It gets the fourth star by virtue of the last 25 pages, which were outstanding. Before that it was between three and four because I felt the story was getting repetitive. Grant spent more time at the bar and with his girlfriend than with Jefferson! Great descriptions of the 1940s Dirty South, though.

Book 9 of my Collecting Dust series. Three more to go! Yup, this is gonna be good. I went in almost blind and so I really didn’t know this book is literally about a LESSON BEFORE DYING. I also didn’t realize that this is from the same author that wrote The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. My first impression is that the defense lawyer’s speech was infuriating. No wonder the godmother wants to fight!
