I quite enjoyed this series and found it a lot less oppressive and depressing in tone than Hobb’s Fitz books.

Been a while since I read this one but I recall characters like Malta and Althea showing good growth and while their path was fraught with hardships they ultimately delivered a satisfying arc.

The villains suck though and don’t exactly improve as the series progresses. Some villains just need a good killing and this series definitely had a few in need of a painful death!

From the Fitz trilogy at least I remember a lot more adventure and movement. This book until now feels very staticky, family drama oriented. I was expecting more sailing and exploring, let's see if it will deliver.

You're right, I do hope Kyle gets a painful death, he is deplorable.
