great book if you're insomniac. I've started falling asleep again

as soon as anything remotely of interest happens in his POV we get hit with another irrelevant side story (one was about a tree.) or a childhood story, all of which makes 0 impact to the story. imagine a sex doll's POV having more value and interest than the living man (not hard to believe)
