Kind of weird. Karen Blixen was clearly very fond of the Kikuyu, Masai, and Somali peoples and the individuals who she knew. But nonetheless she refers to the Kikuyu people who live on her farm as “squatters” and on one occasion as “boys”. The former is odd because they are the local Indigenous people and the latter is odd because it sounds like American racism of the period.
