I feel time disorientated with this. like many other literary novels written during the 70's/80's it struggles to sit firmly in the 1980s, own its space if you will.
Anita Brookner was post 50 when she wrote this and perhaps that's the clue in a world filled with pop culture, Madonna, Prince, and The Eurythmics perhaps she also felt time disorientated and out of sync. I should listen to her interviews
