I was born and raised about 45 mintues from Cherry and I'm horrified that I didn't know a thing about this until now. My hometown was even a mining town! A few people from it died in this disaster! My family wasn't a mining family so maybe that's why it was never spoken of???

Flipping through the list of names. Mom who is George McMullen? You're great uncle, he died in the mine.

My parents came up for a visit. I showed them this book &heard a story like no other. My Greatgrandfather had the day off or he would have been killed. I also heard stories from the disaster I'd never heard before.
It's left me rattled for some reason...I've never heard any stories about my great-grandfather on my mom's side. I never knew he was a miner.
