"Last of the Kilgore Boohags" by Kathleen Kent- She's what his own grandmother would have called True People. Brought low by adversity, but not hardened.
Beleaguered by the passage of years, but not embittered.
Misshapen by physical trials, but still able to laugh at misfortune.

I love this story.

To Cimarron City and Points Beyond by L. H. Phillips- is it aliens? Cosmic horror? Portals? I don't know but it was an interesting read

Routine Surgery by Lauren Oertel is about a young woman who is at the OB/GYN for a tubal ligation--something happens and she wakes up to a different doctor. The ending is shocking and I thought it was so perfect how the author tied in the recent abortion laws and all the fear and anxiety that comes along with the Supreme Court rulings stripping away women's reproductive rights (especially in states like TX)

Bettina by R J Joseph (Beneath the Blue Bonnets: Tales of Terror by Texas Women) this story is gruesome, terrifying, violent, and graphic. I almost wanted to skip or skip to the next but Joseph's storytelling is gripping and held me fast to the story. I'm glad I endured! I love a revenge tale of good ol fashioned justice.
