Absolutely narcissistic narrator. The author tried to paint Barbara as a victim in the story because other characters rightly point out how lazy, selfish, and prideful she is. Her husband sacrifices years to be a doctor to the poor in “Siam” and all she does is whine that she couldn’t play a minor role in an Opera. This line kills me, “the center of my life shifted from music to Harvey” (pg. 329)

Naomi Zwahlen She has little understanding of what “happiness” is and and a greater diminished understanding of substance of good men.

Naomi Zwahlen She abandoned her husband. Let’s be frank, if a man did what she did to her husband and children, he would be rightly hated
