really struggling with this one. it is profoundly and alarmingly ableist and therefore feels deeply upsetting to read. it’s also racist and classist but those are elements that most modern readers can pick up on and recognize as an unfortunate product of its time. the ableism here, though, is a viewpoint that many still sadly have today, which makes this book problematic.
