Reid perfectly articulates that quiet grief of watching a man you respected shrink before your eyes. Not because he changed, but because you finally saw him clearly. This book is not going anywhere near where I thought it was going but I am enjoying every page.

I’m loving this. The naming conventions are incredibly evocative. The Bay of Nine Bells, the Bottom Hundred. The Second Drowning. Every location or name tells a story before you even arrive there and feels loaded with implied history. The names feel lived in and shaped by memory rather than invented for a fantasy novel. I’m gagged

I can already tell this is going to be incredible. Beautifully written, stunning imagery and description, rich world building without info dumping, intrigue, it’s showing not telling. I’m giddy with excitement
