This book is so much more than an investigation of the female authors who came before Jane Austen and likely influenced her work. I love the author talking about her experience as a “bookseller,” and her conflicts with the canon, and her thoughts and reflections on the feminism in play throughout these author’s lives and works. This book is one I will reread and refer back to again and again.
