They both go to war, and James will be MIA. She will think he died, and will get her airfield. Eventually build the hotel grieving the whole time. She will have at least one other opportunity to settle down but won’t be interested. Toward the end, James will show up, stay at her hotel, and tell her he was able to get away by performing her maneuver.
