I hadn’t considered Iri as a possible sign of hope yet. Perhaps, “cleansing,” is the more appropriate term? Either way, this attitude that Futaki brings (in which Iri can fix all sorts of things in the town) is a strange, foreboding addition to a scene where no one else gets along.

I can’t really make sense of whatever the argument is in the first chapter between Futaki and the Schmidts. I quite enjoyed the second chapter in which the bureaucracy sends the bickering Irimias and Petrina to the town, and I’m loving this paranoid doctor with his geology textbook and stalker notebooks in chapter 3.
