The importance of a resilient communal structure applies to the context of a garden city and the average contemporary city. Howard's administrative and economic foundation (which prioritizes mutual dependence and does not reward avarice) is nearly utopic. The realistic implementation of such a system is denied by the capitalist structure that enables individualism and glorifies the maximization of profit to no end.

When reading the first few pages of this thought-provoking piece of literature, I am once again reminded of the beautiful, cyclical nature of our world. The notion that a piece of literature from the late 1800s can speak so truthfully to our current reality brings me to a state of utter awe and sadness.
