I can’t write my review fully yet but, Bolu Babalola wrote Kiki and Malachi in a way that feels immensely intimate. The true aching you feel though out the book with Kiki is so beautifully done. The voice actress also delivers these lines with such grace. It genuinely makes me cry but also makes me want to be completely emotionally intimate with someone like Kiki and Malachi.

One last thing. No shade to Bacari, but this relationship is not even worth fighting for. Nothing shown to me has even resembles two people actually in love and not just going through the motions. This is proven by Bacari’s incessant need to bring up how they “just work” & “make total sense”. He views her just as a necessary, piece to his life and not a true lover and partner. They hearts aint in it fr.

This unfortunately does make sense because when kiki brought up his snarky attitude during their fight and mentioned how she had never seen that before… You have been dating this man a year plus and just now you are finding out he’s an asshole. At this point it’s on kiki to see the writing on the wall.

To me it’s very obvious that kiki and Bakari only tolerate each other out of convenience. They so far have had a simple relationship with minimal fights due to the fact that it’s a surface level relationship. We have seen them have one fight and they are ready to throw the towel in.

Bakari is a sexist pig. On top of that i can tell he’s one of those men who takes a woman who has so much promise and is outspoken and tries to turn her into his pet.
