I read They Poisoned the World: Life and Death in the Age of Forever Chemicals and have since recently seen an article with updates on the West Virginian part of the book. After 8 years, the lawsuit against DuPont and Chemours will be settled out of court. Three states will be affected by the lawsuit: North Carolina, West Virginia, and New Jersey. (1)

Kayla (2) “The agreement is contingent on a federal court’s approval.” What’s worrying — Trump is very pro-industry. “Under EPA administrator Lee Zeldim, an appointee of Trump, the agency has proposed rescinding drinking water standards for GenX and two other forever chemicals, which were established under the Biden Administration. The rollback is expected to be finalized this year. In April, Zeldin appointed two Chemours officials, Shawn Gannon and Sean Uhl, to the EPA’s Science Advisory Board, which will “provide Gold Standard scientific advice” to the agency, according to the EPA website.” Source: Inside Climate News

Kayla The entire article breaks my heart because when you read the accounting of what these chemicals do it’s despicable that we could trust the industry that makes them to go against their own profits and solvency to self-regulate. That the industry themselves are responsible for all the labs and testing to declare what’s safe — why should that be allowed? How does that promote accountability? What company of that size goes against its board members and leaches into its own pockets for the better of people? At that size it’s not about the people anymore. Just money. And it hurts that our current administration will never hold them accountable.
