mixed feelings so far. at its core, the tension between contrasts, coincidences that become themes in our fleeting lives, that’s all fun to think about, but i don’t really gaf abt any of the characters. mommy issues in an annoying way. suffers from casual misogyny in a way that many older works do, but it’s hard to tolerate when the rest book isn’t great. tereza and sabina BOTH desire to be submissive?

i didn’t recall this from the last time years ago I started reading this that kundera has a tendency to explain himself whenever he writes something even slightly open to interpretation. it’s fun that the author is very clearly the narrator, but him showing AND telling us the same ideas kills the vibe a little for me
