After reading the Oresteia in seventh grade and understanding absolutely none of it, I am shocked first by the fact that it (so far) mostly makes complete sense, and second by the beauty and richness of Aeschylus's writing. Yes, these plays were (obviously) meant to be performed, but they are very readable as prose narratives as well, in a way that (imo) plays by the likes of Shakespeare, for example, aren't.
