Two Envelopes And A Phone
Two Envelopes And A Phone is starting
Of the 8 private eye novels I’m reading for Private Eye July, this has the highest average rating. It’s the final book in a series, so of course I had a strong urge to save it for last…but I decided that was too obvious. I will get a little sad about Brandstetter’s cases coming to an end, but I haven’t read all the earlier ones, so it’s not a true good-bye. He’ll be younger, I’ll be older when we meet again later…

Hooked on this. After this one, the only novels I have left for Private Eye July are The Glass Highway by Estleman, and The Doomsters by R. Macdonald - iconic stuff. But I'm just fine kickin' it with Dave Brandstetter for now.

Off and running - a couple of chapters. I like the vibe for this final novel in the series. This is my 6th novel for Private Eye July, and my 2nd one published in the 1990s. The Dashiell Hammett stuff will be the earliest private eye material I get to - 1920s - and I will also have been to the 1930s, 50s, 70s, and 80s, by the time I’m through. Pretty good variety of eras, considering I went with what I owned.
