Most of what I was taught about getting dressed assumed it was, secretly, for someone.Take the audience away and the choice stops being a performance and becomes a decision, a cutting away. Display is outward. Decision is a closing door.The earrings were never really about earrings. They were a larger question: who am I being today, and will I let myself decide that alone? I think adornment is supposed to be private
