One of the reasons I chose this book was that it seems to be about what can be achieved by dedicated people. I tend to prefer that approach to the "We're all doomed" type of book.
Yes, wildlife projects are a hobby of mine. The Great Soul of Siberia: In Search of the Elusive Siberian Tiger by Sooyong Park is the book I enjoyed. The tone was gentle from memory. I understand recommendations, I have an oppressive tbr list as it is and need to be gone with them before taking on new stuff. No pressure 🐅
Thanks, Ian: I understand the Korean Tiger has made a comeback on the peninsula, thanks in part to being able to roam freely in the DMZ. A Cold War can be good for something.

It seems a smallish area for a tiger to range over, but I'll take your word for it. I know that the DMZ has become a wildlife refuge due to the lack of humans, although it's not a great environment for animals as it is covered with landmines. How do the larger animals get in and out, I wonder?
The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone has also become a wildlife refuge, though again the high radiation levels mean it's not an ideal environment. It's says something about the impact of humans that animals are better off living within the heavily militarized DMZ or the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone!
