Bits of shattered bone lay strewn about the altar, made sinister excrescences beneath the enveloping carpet of glowing mold. Streamers of dried slime like foetid icicles stretched from the altar to the floor, and to the black abyss beyond. The basalt itself had absorbed certain stains that would yet taint its surface when the earth fell into the dead sun and even the mad dreams of the gods were cold dust. Nice.

Looked through the books in that series. Some of the cover art is amazing.

Hard to beat Sword & Sorcery for their cover art! Bran is one of the least known Robert E Howard characters. I read the small amount of stories REH did himself and Karl Edward Wagner is considered one of the better tribute writers of REH (his Kane stories can hold their own compared to Conan). Had this used copy for years, figured it was time to see how their talents blended. I have one of Wagner’s Conan books too, on myTBR.
Nice. I've added the Conan and Kane collections to my Amazon wishlist and always on the lookout. Would like to stumble across one of the anthologies at one of my used spots.
