Love these court scenes! I’m guessing Robert Ewell was the one who inflicted the injury.

The Ewells in general are so well written. It’s true that there’s some backwards family in every community lol.

So nice to see Atticus standing up against his sister :)

I won’t lie, I felt pretty saddened by Atticus’s lecture. I’ve been there before: someone you love and look up to betraying your expectations. Wonder if it was purely aunt Alex’s influence or Atticus trying to somewhat spare the kids from the pushback he’s surely going to get about his case. Or maybe it’s something else and my reading comprehension sucks lol. Regardless I’m finally getting more invested

PART 1 THOUGHTS: I feel like reading this after East of Eden was a mistake. An interesting read so far but I often found myself bored with Scout’s POV. The female author and mc are great and make me appreciate this book more, but it just feels so shallow overall after East of Eden.

The end of the part really picked up though. Loved seeing Jem and Dubose ‘bond’, Atticus is really growing on me as well
