Robin Cook must have used his Egyptian vacation as research, the descriptions are too journalistic. Still, page after page of a lover's spat delivered word-for-word, or a character constantly saying "Egyptology is not a serious profession. Who cares about a dead culture?" really drags down the reading. Luckily, the vocab is on my level so I don't have to consult a dictionary too often.

This is such a hilarious blend of tourist travel log and low budget TV thriller. 😂

I'm sorry, but they don't hand out degrees in Egyptology to people who have never set foot in Egypt or who don't have at least 3 years of Arabic, like our young, beautiful "first timer/English only" Egyptologist fmc. That's an academic impossibility.

The Italian translation of an old thriller set in Egypt. Already pretty unrealistic, but Cook never let himself be limited by reality. Astounding what you can find in my local LFL!
