george falling into the pond is SENDING ME (and on a more serious literary note: i'm really enjoying the parallels between this scene and the similar scene with lucy earlier in the book-- and how both times the shock of the fall kind of jolts them out of their previous mindset and and lets them see each other clearly for a moment
