I left my Kindle on the airplane and couldn't read for a while until I got it back - oops.

Anyway! This chapter describes the stages of conversation and spends most of the time operationalising the different categories of speech in conversation. It touches upon the differences in age as well, explaining how egocentrism shapes the conversation of children in the pre-operational stage.

This chapter provided great insight into how research with children is carried out, and clearly layed out the types of speech (either socialised or egocentric) - repetition, pure monologues, collective monologues, adapted information, criticism, commands, questions, and answers. Overall, 6-7 year old children speak mostly for themselves, to 'accompany and reinforce individual activity'.

As a person thoroughly interested in psychology and human development, I'm super excited to start reading this!!
