Most of the book I enjoyed, even though I got the feeling that Theroux was very judgmental and focused on the uglier side of most places. Towards the end of the book, he became insufferable with his obsession with sex and gore. I’m sure there was more to see in Japan than what he describes. The adultery (after mentioning his wife and family a gazillion times) gave me a deep ick.
