The book is OK but the Historian was much better. The tale takes some time to unfold and one quickly becomes impatient. Through Alexandra, the narrative is dreary and the similes and metaphors often miss the mark. The book doesn't really get good until the narrative switches to the voice of the old timers in the tale. I was really looking forward to reading this book but when I read other reviews, I am left scratching my head and wondering if we've read the same book.
