i am a HUGE susan sontag fan - but the first criticism i ever heard of her actually came from fran lebowitz who insisted that she was ‘not a sympathetic character’ and that her refusal to label herself as a lesbian is the only thing fran would defend her about. these observations are becoming increasingly valid the more i read this biography.
