It’s too much military and flintlock. Where is my fantasy that was promised from the prologue? I was flabbergasted when the 10 page long battlescene was over and switched to a 20 page long battlescene without any resumption and without me being the slightest bit attached to any of the characters. Booooring

Im incredibly torn. I always try to like the books I read but at the same time I’m having extreme feelings about everything that seem to change with every page all throughout the book. I’ve started the second book of Malazan book of the fallen and see a lot similarities with one distinction- Malazan being far more complex. I am content with this book not being that especially noting that the beginning is boooring
