It's not like Cecile sent her back a letter explaining the atrocities going on in NOLA. It's not her fault that her family left so they wouldn't risk themselves getting a deadly disease. He behavior is still mean and she should be more sympathetic. But the book acts like she's the worst. Most of the things that are shown as examples of her being the "Mean girl" either aren't her fault, or not that bad.

I can think of some mean things she has said, but they are not treated nearly as bad as when she says she excited about a new dress.

I don't like the way this book characterizes the "mean girls". Most of the mean girls in AG books are rude and annoying, and so are these girls too. but at the same time, so many of their "mean-ness" is just them being kids. So what, she like to talk about fancy clothes and sipping tea? That's what she calls fun, and she doesn't deserve to be shamed for it. How would she even know Cecile's brother almost died?
