Sometimes I wish Anne Rice was still with us just so I could ask her, really, why she keeps writing these weird parental-child relationships. It’s not attractive, not complex or even interesting. Just uncomfortable and honestly corny (“My dark angel Gabrielle”). I really like this book otherwise, but it’s exhausting every so often having to process an entire page of Lestat lusting for his own mother.

So far it honestly reads like a manifesto
