I picked this book up at a motel book exchange in Utah a few years back and loved it!

Hi Vicki! Yes, this is my first readthrough! After getting out of Lonesome Dove, things are starting to pick up. I am really enjoying it so far. I am glad you loved this one. Have you read any other of McMurtry's work? 😊

Hi Rob! Wow, that seemed to be a great decision. 😊 How does this one rank in your best reads ever? It seems to be rated highly by everyone. In fact, I don't think I have come across any negative comments about it, other than a slowish beginning.

I really enjoyed it as I recall… I only have positive thoughts about it, but for some reason, I only ranked at four stars… I guess I wasn’t writing reviews back then so I’m not sure why I took a star off, especially when I see all the Five Star reviews out there. Guess that’s another good reason to write reviews …so I can remember what I thought about a book. 🤣

Having traveled a lot out west I do remember being astounded at the thought that a cattle drive to go from Texas to Montana, uninterrupted by roads and fences! Sad to see how the land has been all torn up since then….

My all time favorite Novel! I have read it 3 complete times too. You fall in love with Gus and his ways. How can he and Call be friends? It's not just their story it is Newt's as well.

I hope you really are enjoying this. It lingers with me like no other book has ever done.

Hi Lesle! The characters are certainly memorable! The stark differences between Call and Gus actually work out pretty well. Quiet, yin and yang! They compliment each other perfectly! I am enjoying this one so far, and hopefully I will finish it within the next couple of weeks. I am glad this has made such a great impression on you! Books are an amazing treat! 😊
