It honestly pains me to say this, because I’m a huge fan of Dr Yakoob - and studying with him in Istanbul is what kickstarted my love for Islamic history - but this book is really very poor. It is badly structured, has so many grammar and spelling errors, and says very little of benefit despite being so rambly.
And many of the points and grand links are beyond tenuous.
I’m STRUGGLING to finish it. Sorry :((((((

“The idea of cycles & everything having a beginning and end has been a rather logical way in which people of the past thought. I would add that it was only during the advent of modernity that we saw time in a linear fashion, a constant incline due to progress, but with no future or end in sight. And yet, death, collapse, & the end are part of what gives the believer a purpose, in recognising there is an akhirah.”

Reading this with the author, Dr Yakoob - one of my fav teachers from my time studying in Istanbul.

Amazing book, everyone needs to read this!
