Black Monday Lovesong
A.S.J. Tessimond
(July 19th 1902 — May 13th 1962)
Arthur Seymour John Tessimond was perhaps the quintessential British bachelor, with a self-confessed penchant for kippers, marmalade, Pimms No. 1 and Gentleman's relish. He was "tolerably well known" as a poet but fell swiftly into obscurity following his death.
Tessimond worked as a copywriter until the outbreak of the Second World War.

Dick Barlow was a superb bowler and played for Lancashire for 20 years. Near the end of his life he said: "I don't think any cricket has enjoyed his cricketing career better than I have done, and if I had my time to come over again I should certainly be what I have been all my life — a professional cricketer." Barlow died on this day in 1919.
