Oh please, I don’t buy that Addie is this clever girl who’s planning on laying some smack downs. “Luc” may not understand her, but it’s been repeatedly shown that she doesn’t understand him as much as she thinks she does either. I’m glad I’m done with this. Two stars.

Aw hell naw. I feel tricked! And I have had it UP TO HERE with “Luc’s” green eyes and curly black hair! This book would be about 100 pages shorter without the repetitive and almost obsessive descriptions of him. Man, this is yet another story that could’ve been good with better execution and a better writer. Someone like Gaiman would’ve tore this up! With Schwab though this is almost vomit inducing.

Schwab must’ve learned the word PALIMPSEST right before writing this book or something. SERIOUSLY.

Just finished part 4, which is the best part so far since it’s in Henry’s POV. Unfortunately it looks like part 5 is back to Adeline and the damn 1700s. I hope that’s the last flashback because there’s no more need to continue to bring the story back to that time. It breaks everything up in a bad way. Schwab has good ideas - art, immortality, legacy - but this isn’t the best way to tell that story.

Should I be suspicious of Henry? The MC in The Time Traveler’s Wife was named Henry too. And they both look alike and work around books. Something ain’t right! Every time the story switches back to the 1700s I inwardly groan and am tempted to start reading something else. The present time is working better for me but I can never fully get into it! And Schwab is an irritating “list and repeat” kind of writer.

Just finished Part 2. I was gonna give it until Addie goes to the bookstore mentioned in the summary and see if I wanted to continue. Things are starting to look up with a welcome POV change. Henry seems to be a more interesting character. Also: Odyssey shout out! My mom has abandoned Meditations in favor of reading my copy of the Odyssey. She’s been obsessed since watching the movie a few days ago.

Man, I don’t know. I’m getting The Time Traveler’s Wife déjà vu and that’s not a good thing. The writing’s not bad but it is long winded. And the book is moving slowly and I’m not feeling Adeline either. Thankfully the chapters are short - I just started the 13th so maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to get through. But my patience is thin so I’ll DNF and read Never Let Me go instead if it comes to that.
