It's like they just swept through every aspect of German life, grabbed it up, took control of it and erased any other purpose it could have except serving Nazism, and then eventually the whole thing was absorbed and transformed. I couldn't think of this book by title or author, and attempts at searches had failed me...so thanks for making it appear and reminding me what I read. And no, I didn't read the ones before or after - I thought this one would be the most fascinating.
