Wow, Eleanor Johnson does her research.
I think sometimes male filmmakers use women in their horror movies because, even subconsciously, we represent vulnerability to them. And often unintentionally they expose vulnerabilities that call for social change. It’s also just satisfying to know that these filmmakers accidentally ignite change when advocating for the opposite.

Ok so I had already seen Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist but the next couple of movies she talks about in the book I haven’t seen so I’m watching them before I read the chapter on them which has been a fun way to read this!

Only through the introduction of this book and Eleanor Johnson has already sent chills down my spine. Not because the movies this novel will be analyzing are so disturbing they illicit such a reaction, but because Johnson argues that we’re once again, socially and politically speaking, living through the 1970s. My mind is spinning with parallels between that political climate and our current state. Terrifying.
