I looked at his arms. You could see all the muscles there.
What are you doing Ell? Stop looking at his biceps. Stop looking at him!
“Um,” I stutter, trying to regain myself again.
He turns so he’s right in front of me, and places his arm right above my head.
My heart stops. It really shouldn’t.
“Afraid you’ll lose?” He says, his face dangerously close to mine. I can feel his warm breath.
“No. You’re so cocky.” I tell him, ignoring how close his face is. “Game on, Captain.”
Oh no. Oh no, oh no, oh no. I did not just call him that.
His arm falls from the wall.
“Captain, huh?”
“I told you, don’t be so cocky.” I say, mentally slapping myself in the forehead. “You’re not just the Captain of the hockey team.”
“Oh yeah?” He grins. “Then what else?”
“The Captain of the Cocky Boys who annoy girls named Elliana Quim Club.” I say. “I’m pretty sure you’re the only member.”
He rolls his eyes, but I can see him hiding a smile. “There aren’t many girls named Elliana Quim. You’re the only one I know.”
“Exactly. This proves my point.” I ignored how his voice sounded when he said “You're the only one I know.”
“The amount of times you’ve called me cocky in the past 5 minutes is concerning.” He murmurs.
“Well, it's a word that describes you better than any other word in the English language.”
“And how would you know?”
“Mind you, I have the highest GPA in all of our grade, and English is my strong suit.” I say, but my smile falters as soon as the words come out of my mouth. I don’t know why.
“Well, English is also my best subject, so you’re not that special.”
“Okay, how about whoever wins Skee-Ball gets bragging rights about English?” I propose.
“Deal. Just know I’m going to win.”
“In your dreams, Captain.”
