As his bookshelves showed, his tastes were varied with books in English, books in French, biographies, mysteries, and even a few romances with covers that would make a straight man sweat.

Each visit, however, had provoked a certain disdain. Pierre didn’t like being the object of surveillance.
“Not dead yet!” he’d call out, or “Here to check my pulse?”

“We’ll always be friends,” Danny replied with an easy laugh. “Hey, maybe one day we’ll even be friends with benefits! That’s the thing with daddies, Bill! The older they get the more we like ‘em!”

Underneath Danny’s chatter was a man who loved life. It was true when Bill had first met him and it was true now. Stick Danny in a hospital waiting room and everyone felt better. Stand him naked on the pedestal at a drawing class and everyone was more talented.

“Ah, it’s just nostalgia,” Bill said with a dismissive wave of the hand. “First sign of dementia.”

“God,” Jonah meekly replied. “He told us to draw god so I did.”
“Yeah, naked,” Jack said with a smirk.
“Of course naked!” Zoey said in Jonah’s defense. “What’s god going to wear, anyway? Armani?”
