An enthralling read so far. I’m gobbling up every page, hungry for it like the first time I read one of Anais Nin’s journals. Ernaux’s depiction of girlhood feels so familiar. Somehow all of its uncertainty, curiosity, ugliness, and embarrassment are made lovely. Magic.
