Read "The Judgment." Reading Kafka's work in order, you can definitely feel him finding his own voice here. This actualization is strangely roundabout; compared to the preceding works, Kafka's writing is less impenetrable, easier to decipher. Rather than outright confusing the reader, the surreal elements are more subtle; the more conventional build-up draws readers in for a more effective and cathartic twist.

As I make my way through the collection "Meditation," I find Kafka's flash fiction surprisingly affecting. "The Sudden Walk" and "Bachelor's Ill Luck" are particularly resonant stories.
