I can't say I saw that coming. I like how this book plays with the perception of the different characters. There is a sort of push and pull to it. The silent companions are still objectively funny though.

Wow, that escalated quickly! One thing I appreciate about the nature of the silent companions is that they are a little camp. Like, there will be all this dread and then something messed up happens, there is all this blood, and you turn around and it's just a little wooden guy lurking. Hilarious.

I usually hate the trope of the creepy little kid but I think this one actually works. Maybe because he actually seems like a kid? I thought maybe the baby girl might be possessed but now it seems like no? The husband is still surprisingly not shitty.

The vibes are good but the characters aren't landing for me so far. Her husband actually seems really nice which is kind of unexpected in this sort of story. The time period also isn't coming through as much as I would like.
