Peter Mayeux Richard Reeves has written profiles of Presidents Kennedy and Nixon. He covered Ronald Reagan for various news organizations when Reagan was in the White House.
This book examines key dates and important issues during Reagan’s presidency. The narrative is told mostly with newspaper and other media stories. There are gaps in the coverage of President Reagan in the White House, but what is covered is thoroughly researched, discussed and documented. There is special attention to the Iran-Contra controversy and President Reagan’s failing health in the last years of his presidency. Reeves presents an excellent descriptive narrative that captures each important moment and creates an attractive presentation that captures strong reader reaction.
Generally, Reeves presents a favorable perspective of Reagan. To avoid creating distractions, there are several descriptive footnotes that should have been placed either in the main narrative or added to the notes and comments sections of the book.
This book should interest readers who want a more complete review of Reagan’s presidency or simply an in-depth perspective of this short eight-year period in Reagan’s life.
